Project Description and Objectives:

This project aims to develop the sensing techniques for continuum robots for surgical tasks in confined spaces. The objectives include some of the following tasks: 1) Design a kind of sensing technique for the continuum robot; 2) Fabricate the sensor body to be assembled on the continuum robot; 3) Conduct a phantom study or animal test to validate the developed sensor.

Eligibility Requirements:

Familiarity with Solidworks etc. for the mechanical modelling;

Good theoretical knowledge about robot sensing;

Be good at hands-on capabilities to fabricate or assemble the sensor.

Experience with micro/nano robots and flexible electronics preferred.

Main Tasks:

Design a sensor structure capable of working with the continuum robot;

Create the sensor body to be assembled on the continuum robot;

Finish the experimental validation and the project report.
