Embracing Challenges and Building Connections: My Teaching Journey in Auckland

International Affairs Division 2023-05-25 524

In the blink of an eye, we have been working in Auckland for a month and a half. During this time, we have experienced severe weather conditions like floods and hurricanes in New Zealand, but we have also felt the warmth and support provided by the Confucius Institute. I have participated in various activities organized by the school, such as trips, camps, swimming competitions, and more. These enriching activities have brought me closer to the students and allowed me to integrate better into the local school life.

The school where I teach is a primary school, and my students range from grade one to grade eight. It is a significant challenge for me. Although I had some experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language before, most of it was focused on adults. Therefore, I needed to explore how to adapt my teaching methods and choose appropriate teaching techniques for younger students. Fortunately, with the efficient training provided by the Confucius Institute, timely feedback from the school's teachers, and guidance from mentor teachers, I have become more confident in my teaching journey.
