Shanghai Urban Ecosystem Research Station (SUERS), which was founded in 2013, belongs to China Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (CTERN), National Forestry and Grassland Administration, P.R. China. Three monitoring sites were located at Zhongshan Park, Outer-Ring Forest Belt (Pudong Section) and Chongming Island, respectively, to form an urban-suburban-rural gradient of spatial distribution. Long-term observations are conducted on hydrology, soils, atmosphere and forest stands, and research topics include urban forest ecosystem services, forest structure and function, potentials of reducing air pollutions, management technology, etc. The station is also a platform for technique extension, consulting, popular science, environment protection education.
SUERS is leader of Chinese Urban Ecosystem Observation Union, Science Seed Station of Shanghai Ecology Society, and Monitoring Station for Forest Oxygen Bar, State Forestry and Grassland Administration, P. R. China. SUERS has the research cooperation and personal exchange with more than foreign institutions. Recently team members work as PI or co-PI in some key national research projects. The research results have important impacts in the relevant fields.
