The school leadership meets with the President of the Technical University of Munich and his delegation

On the morning of April 12th, Yang Zhenbin, the Party Secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, met with Thomas F. Hofmann, the President of the Technical University of Munich, at the Minhang Campus. Juliane Winkelmann, Senior Vice President for International Cooperation, and Gerhard Kramer, Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation at the Technical University of Munich, also visited. Zhu Xinyuan and Liu Weidong, Vice Presidents of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as well as relevant leaders from various departments of the university, attended the event.345.jpg

Yang Zhenbin warmly welcomed Thomas F. Hofmann and his delegation, expressing sincere gratitude for the warm reception they received during their visit to the Technical University of Munich last December. He pointed out that the world is currently undergoing unprecedented changes, and deepening international cooperation in the field of education will undoubtedly promote the development of higher education institutions and schools, playing a driving role in economic, social, and cultural development. Both universities expressed their willingness to cooperate in multiple areas last year, and through President Hofmann's visit, they hope to further promote mutual understanding and elevate the cooperation between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Technical University of Munich to a new level, creating a better future together.

Thomas F. Hofmann expressed that this visit to China, which included visits to universities and research institutions in Beijing and Shenzhen, was an essential part of their journey. He highly praised China's innovation ecosystem. Hofmann believes that international cooperation, although facing challenges, also presents opportunities, and it is crucial to cultivate cross-cultural communication abilities among young generations. Universities and research institutions need to maintain an open attitude towards cooperation, as only through collaboration can they jointly address challenges.

During the discussion, representatives from the School of Design, the School of Aerospace Engineering, and the School of Materials Science exchanged views on existing cooperation between the two universities. After the meeting, representatives from various departments and schools of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, including the Research Institute, the Planning and Development Office, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Institute of Translational Medicine, and the School of Biomedical Engineering, held parallel discussions with members of the visiting delegation, conducting fruitful discussions on cooperation in multiple fields.

The delegation also visited the School of Design, the Student Innovation Center, and the Da Linghao Bay Science and Technology Innovation Park.

The Technical University of Munich (Technische Universität München, TUM) is located in Munich, the largest city in southern Germany. It was originally established in 1868 as the "Royal Bavarian Polytechnic of Munich." TUM is a leading research university in Europe and one of the first three elite universities in Germany. It is a member of various international alliances, including the Imperial College of Science and Technology, the Global University High Research Institute Alliance, the European Excellent Engineering University Alliance, and the European Top Engineering University Alliance.
