SJTU Institute of international communication of Chinese calligraphy culture

On the morning of January 9th, the founding ceremony of the institute of international communication of Chinese calligraphy culture of USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry was held. Former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and his wife, south Korean embassy Kim, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal People's Congress (NPC) and Party Secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Jiang Sixian , Vice President Huang Zhen, Director of institute of international cooperation and exchanges Mo Liangjin, Party Secretary and Dean of USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry Zhang Weimin , Director of Chinese calligraphy culture international communication research institute and professor of USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry Zhou Bin attended the ceremony.

Ban told the story of his "Chinese calligraphy" from the end of 2011. He was impressed by professor Zhou Bin's ingenious teaching methods, and expressed his interest in Chinese calligraphy as he often learned Chinese traditional culture in the course.

Subsequently, the founding ceremony of the institute of international communication of Chinese calligraphy culture was held. In his speech, Jiang Sixian said that as a century-old school with the mission of cultivating outstanding talents and spreading advanced culture, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has the responsibility to promote cross-cultural communication between China and the world.

Ban ki-moon said in his speech, calligraphy as a unique art form, has the profound connotation of culture and rich in spirit. Practicing calligraphy can not only make people find a path to inner peace, but also can enrich people's understanding of Chinese character and beauty. Mr. Ban recalled his earlier practice of practicing calligraphy under the guidance of Zhou Bin, and encouraged people to experience and explore the art treasures of the human culture.

Ban ki-moon, Zhang Weimin, Zhou Bin and Meng Jian jointly opened the international communication institute for Chinese calligraphy culture. After the unveiling ceremony, Jiang Sixian and Ban Ki-moon viewed the first class of Chinese calligraphy culture international communication research institute in 2018, and wrote "fu" word with foreign students to explore the origin and development of Chinese "fu" culture.
